This fan is used mainly for destratification, stirring up heat pockets toward the ceiling to keep air moving. Not recommended for feeling air at the ground level.

Can this fan be placed outdoors--under covered patio
Thank you for your question. From the manufacturer:
-This fan is suitable for indoor and outdoor areas provided the fan is fully undercover with a minimum of 2 walls. The
ceiling fan must be positioned in a location protected from water, wind, dust and salt. Exposure to these elements
will void the warranty. Mounting the fan in a situation where it is subject to water or moisture is dangerous-

Does the big air silver 72 inch fan have a flush mount or what is the shortest drop post available?
Thank you for your question. This unit comes with a 6" down rod which is the shortest they offer. The blades need that amount of distance from the ceiling to efficiently circulate the air.

Yes. There is a 24” downrod available for this fan. It is not currently showing as an accessory, so you can call 866-727-1060 to add this piece onto the order.
