I have a 3-speed RC hub. Can I use it with the 2-speed QuietCool 3100?

Thank you for your question. I am not sure what make and model your hub is, but below is a link to the installation instructions for this unit. On pages 8-9, you will see the wiring instructions that you can compare to your exsisting hub and determine if it will work.

what is the necessity of the 14"x22" damper ceiling box

This box and grill portion is what is installed in the ceiling of the home, then the air being exhausted is moved to the attic, then out the attic vents.
for a 1585 sqft single story home what would be min/max cfm application

Typically it is suggested to exchange the air in a home approx. once every 3 miunutes. In this case, if your ceiling height is 8 ft. your cubic feet of space will be 12,680. This QuietCool fan will exhchange the air approx. once every 4 minutes.
