Benefits of Cooling Air
OSHA recommends keeping indoor workplaces between 68 and 76°F. Higher temperatures increase the risk of dehydration, heat stroke or heat exhaustion and the human body responds by sweating.
Moisture evaporating from the skin lowers surface temperature. Air movement accelerates that process and makes the workplace feel cooler. Workers who aren’t distracted by feeling uncomfortable can concentrate better, while also being more productive. They make less errors and take fewer or shorter breaks. Fingers don’t get as slippery (due to perspiration), making it easier to maintain a steady grip on assembly tools. Blow air through your assembly area(s) and see benefits on the bottom line.
Process Cooling
There’s a reason the Model T Ford was painted black: black dries faster, which let Henry speed up assembly. We don’t know if he used fans for even faster drying, but they definitely would have helped.
Many modern assembly operations can benefit from faster cooling and drying times. Reducing delays in assembly cuts the need for carrying a larger inventory, while also decreasing leadtime which saves on factory floor space. When cooling takes place in open areas a high velocity fan, or tube axial mancooler type fan is the best option. If cooling happens in an enclosure, go with blower-style fans designed for high pressure.
Equipment Cooling
Electronic systems are found throughout manufacturing and assembly operations. Transformers, computers and PLCs are just are a few of the heat-producing devices in use. At the same time, electronic components hate high temperatures that cause faulty signals and accelerate failure rates.
One solution is to blow cool air into the enclosed cabinets, leaving vents for hot air to exit. This lowers operating temperatures and so helps prevent breakdowns. Pressure blowers are the right type of fan for applications like these.
Positive Pressure Environments
In many assembly operations it’s essential to keep dust particles out of the space. One way is to blow clean, filtered air into the assembly room or hall. This creates positive pressure, which makes it less likely that dust will enter. (Clean lab coats gloves, and hairnets are other ways of keeping areas clean and dust-free.)
High pressure blowers are a good choice for this kind of application. They can work with ducting that draws fresh air in through filters and directs it into assembly. Put them to work and watch defect rates and customer complaints fall.
Fan Types
We sell three types of fan for assembly operations. These are man cooler circulation fans, high pressure blowers and high velocity fans.
These tube axial style fans are designed to move large amounts of air through large spaces, like an assembly facility. There are two main types to consider: portable or stationary. Portable man cooler fans are ideal if the high temperatures won’t last long. Summertime for example, or a particular process that won’t be done for long.
Stationary cooling fans provide airflow year-round for facilities that produce heat internally from machinery or electronics, This style of air movement equipment are often mounted to a pedestal, beam or ceiling where they can be aimed at a particular place. In contrast, portable man coolers come on low, medium or high stands that make them easy to move.
All our mancooler fans have screens or guards that meet OSHA requirements on both inlet and outlet sides.
These centrifugal fans are intended for blowing air into an enclosure. They’re ideal for equipment cooling, process cooling and for creating positive pressure spaces since they are designed to function in higher static pressure environments. Blowers come in a wide range of sizes and airflow rates. Explosion-proof versions are available for use in locations where flammable or ignitable chemicals, gases, dust or vapors create hazardous conditions.
These axial tube fans are needed when there’s a lot of air to be moved over long distances. These fans are able to send a controlled amount of air over 50' to 100' in distance The tube design reduces vortices at the blade tips, which makes them quieter and more efficient. Fans are available in belt drive and direct drive versions, and up to 42,000 CFM of air movement.
Moving Air in Assembly Line Facilities
Fans in assembly operations can lower costs and improve quality. They’ll even save on space and reduce leadtime by speeding-up processes. They key though is to select the right one. For help with this call the experts at Industrial Fans Direct: 866 727 1060.
